CERT Recognized for Shelter Ops

After Hurricane Irma impacted our region, Pickens CERT was deployed by Pickens County EMA to run a shelter for people without power, water, etc. The first shelter that we prepared to open lost power shortly before the official opening time. Without hesitation, Pickens County EMA found us an alternative site that we immediately packed up and headed to and was able to open a functional shelter within a very short amount of time.

At our meeting on September 26th, Pickens County EM Director Denise Kwiatek and Deputy Director Pierce Womack treated CERT to a dinner and awarded those who ran the shelter deployment with a certificate of appreciation.
